The National Art Gallery of Nassau, Bahamas actually stands out from the many art galleries that are present in the city. It is situated within the Villa Doyle on West Hill Street. This historic building dates back to the 1860s and has been conserved carefully ever since. It was the house of the Chief Justice before being transformed into an art gallery.
The recently revamped National Art Gallery of the Bahamas includes paintings and is also home to collection of photographs, ceramics, and textiles, which most of it are from the latter part of the 20th century onwards.
National Art Gallery of the Bahamas
The National Art Gallery of the Bahamas is situated at Villa Doyle, West Hill Street, Nassau, Bahamas. This strange museum resides in a separate building and showcases Bahamian art that includes pieces by award-winning contemporary artists.
It also contains landscape paintings that were produced by the prominent American artist Winslow Homer (1836 to 1910). In spite of having some of the art on display that may not go with to everyone’s taste, it is an appealing eye-opener giving everyone something to be interested in. It tally to periods from pre – colonial times to the present.
Doongalik Studios
Doongalik Studios is situated at Marina Village at Atlantis, Paradise Island, Bahamas. This is a well-known gallery in Marina Village. It is a “shop cum gallery” and one of its types in the part of Paradise Island. This group shows off Bahamian culture to a tee.
The Doongalik Studios includes bounty of modern art works that contain oil paintings by John Cox and Jessica Colebrooke. They are kept for sale along with various reasonable modern sculptures. This gallery is open for everyone all days from 10:00 to 22:00 and admission is free for everyone.
Community College, Nassau
The Nassau Community College Art Department presents students the chances to walk around the creative process through a volume of courses in aesthetics and technique with our state of the art studios and labs. The ceramics painting, drawing and sculpture studios along with modern photography and computer labs are unequaled in the Metropolitan area.
Nassau Glass
The Nassau Glass company is the first Glass fabricating company in the Bahamas and it has been established back since 1959. Up-to-date, they continue to produce beautiful lighting (in particular chandeliers), pieces of fabricated glass work, and framing for original art work and prints. the Nassau Glass Company is really something to see if you love and appreciate beautiful adventure.
Andrew Aitken Photography
Andrew Aitken Photography is another great venue where artist and photographers get their original pieces framed and sold. Being here is a funfilled thing. It’s a great treat to see some of the traditional Bahamian art work and retro photography on display in there showroom.
D’Aguilar Art Foundation
D’Aguilar Art Foundation was established by the D’Aguilar family in memory of the late Vincent D’Aguilar that features his personal collect of some of the best Bahamian art work around. It was launched back in 2008 after Mr. D’Aguilar’s death and his confidentially held art collection is open to the viewing public daily for those who enjoy Bahamian art and to contribute to art education and literacy in the Bahamas. The foundation also gives “entrée to scholars, artist, collectors and aficionados l to study and research Bahamian art.”
Antonius Roberts Studio
Hillside House the studio of Antonius Roberts features the work of one of the Bahamas most highly praised Bahamian artist Antonius Roberts. All over his studio you’ll see most of his paintings and sculptures produced by the artist over the years, but you’ll also become introduced to Antonius’ passion of sculptures, wood work, and cravings. Its close proximity to Down Town Nassau makes it an ideal spot for visitors to come, see and experience Bahamian’s local art and the artist. Hillside House is also featured on several art and visitor tours. It also offers various art classes throughout the year for the community.
Popop Studios
Popop Studios was founded by Mr. John Cox another well-known artist in the Bahamas. He opened up Popop Studios as an artist accommodating program for young art interns. Community art programs are also taught there. At Popop Studios you can find the best contemporary art in the Bahamas and at an affordable price.
Bahamas Craft Centre
The Bahama Craft Centre is where you’ll find an plenty of straw work featuring: place mats, hats, bags and other souvenirs on sale in the Cable Beach stalls and Paradise Island. The difference between the two is that there is more than one location at Cable Beach and it’s usually less jam-packed than the Straw Market on Bay Street.
You may even find a wider variety of genuinely made Bahamian goods on sale here rather than anywhere else. Especially at the BAIC- Bahama Craft Centre shows held once a year – what is now known as the Melia Nassau Beach Hotel.
